Plant biotechnology
Our plant biotechnology division is focused on computational biology, gene identification and validation, and developing molecular breeding tools. This important research underpins our harm reduction and sustainable farming programmes.

In 2020, we opened a state-of-the-art biotechnology laboratory at our global R&D hub in Southampton, UK. The new facility enables us to build on decades of world-class expertise in the fields of plant genetics and bioinformatics and opens up new areas in the fields of synthetic biology and receptor modelling. This provides us with the ability to modulate high-value compounds of interest.

We use the most advanced genome sequencing and computational tools to elucidate the biosynthetic pathways of plant-derived actives and offer a solution to boost their production in a sustainable way.
